{"id":1242,"date":"2022-09-06T13:53:03","date_gmt":"2022-09-06T05:53:03","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.marineresearch.org.au\/?page_id=1242"},"modified":"2022-09-06T13:53:07","modified_gmt":"2022-09-06T05:53:07","slug":"5th-september-2022-new-whale-project-for-the-south-west","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"http:\/\/www.marineresearch.org.au\/?page_id=1242","title":{"rendered":"5th September 2022 New whale project for the South-West"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>MEDIA RELEASE&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 5th September, 2022<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>NEW WHALE PROJECT FOR SOUTH WEST<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Geographe Marine Research has announced a new project to document the size of the whale migration along the South West Coast this spring.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Chair Ian Wiese said GMR aimed to achieve a clearer picture of the number of migrating whales passing Cape Naturaliste, and how many go into Geographe Bay on their migration.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThis new research will complement whale research projects in the South West, and add to our knowledge bank about the whale migration,\u201d Mr Wiese said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cUntil now, research has mainly focused on the numbers of whales passing through the Bay, but we know many travel past further out to sea,\u201d Mr Wiese said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cGMR will monitor both sides of Cape Naturaliste at the same time over two fortnights this month and in November.
